My Top Tips for Traveling LIGHT!!

If there is one advice I will always give new travelers – it will always be to pack LIGHT!

This blog is dedicated to all the women around the world – let’s face it, there is no stereotype in this world, we love to go overboard when it comes to packing up – and a quick look in our own handbags can give us that reality check ;p

On my first ever trip abroad; I had even packed up tea bags and rainbow milk to make sure I wasn’t deprived of anything. But over the years, have learnt that there are many many things we can live without when we go exploring and just focus on having fun. It does take a bit of practice but packing light makes for a much less stressful travelling experience.

Here are the some things I have learnt over the years to ensure you pack ONLY what you need.

Check the weather of the country you are going to; Yes, make sure that’s the first thing you do before you even think about making a list of what you need to pack. This way you will know if you should keep that new bikini, light jacket or winter coat.

Make a list;
Once you are done with checking out temperatures of your destination, it’s time to take out the packing “wish list” – and then throw it in the garbage! It is okay to not carry every dress or skirt that makes you look skinny. You are not Beyonce and people will not scramble to get a good look at you. You’re there to have fun and explore so don’t stress about the perfect outfit.

Mix and Match Outfits;
Any weather you are travelling to, make sure you choose clothes, shoes and jewelery that can mix and match with everything else you have in your suitcase. If it’s two pairs of shorts, take 4 shirts, two pairs of shoes/slippers and mix ‘em up for different looks.

Get chunky colorful accessories;
I cannot stress how important this is when you’re out and about. Getting chunky colourful jewelery, neck pieces, and earrings doesn’t only save space in your travel bag – but also makes sure you have different looks with the same mix and match outfits. Simple, classy, effective and makes for great pictures ;)

Take travel size toiletries;
I Know that the world may seem to end if you don’t use THAT conditioner in you hair – but if you’re on a five day trip somewhere – I say let your hair loose – quite literally as well and don’t fuss up. Wherever you are going, you can always go to the local supermarket and pick up stuff for the few days you’re there. It will also give you a lot more room to pack that straightner that you may want to take along.

Fold Neatly;
This may seem unnecessary but trust me, it is very important to fold your clothes to as tiny and neat little things as possible. Use your shoes to stuff in scarves, socks or jewelry packets. Many seasoned travelers swear by these methods.

And lastly…

Carry an extra bag;
Almost always have I congratulated myself on having the good sense to keep that extra gym or sports bag that was lying about at home and packed it in as an after-thought. Even those who avoid retail therapy – though I hardly know of any such women – do end up buying something either unique to your destination or something great for the house if not yourself. So that extra bag always helps and you don’t have to end up purchasing an extra carry on in case you are a souvenir fanatic!

Hope this helps guys,

Till next time, Happy Travelling and Bon Voyage :D
